Maven is a command-line tool for building Java (and other) programs. The Maven project provides a simple ZIP file containing a precompiled version of Maven for your convenience. There is no installer. It’s up to you to set up your prerequisites and environment to run Maven on Windows.

Create a JAVA_HOME System Variable as shown below in Figure 4.1
Now Create a MAVEN_HOME System Variable as shown below in Figure 4.2
Add %M2_HOME%\bin; to your System Path as shown below in Figure 4.3
Type “mvn –version” to verify the details.
It should print out your installed version of Maven, for example:
Maven home: C:\maven\bin\..
Java version: 1.6.0_24, vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java home: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: Cp1252
OS name: "windows xp", version: "5.1", arch: "x86", family: "windows"
